Windows xp svc pack 2
No exe files will run. I get an error saying exe file is not
associated with a program. However I can't run any exe program to fix
this...any thoughts??

An update to this questions is that the only registered file type
listed in the folder options is SCA

This is often a side effect of a virus or other malware infection...

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.

David,

Thanks for the information. I have the file but I can not run it
because "exe" is not associated with a program. In the folder types
only SCA is listed as a registered file type.

It is as if "exe" extension is not recognized by the OS. Even the
icons are the unrecognized file icon.

I can't even get a command prompt when in safe mode.

This one is a new one for me.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi

If no programs work, please see the following link to Doug Knox's web site
and try the fix for
the .EXE files:

Good information..I think this is what I need....Thanks
When I import the zip reg file I get an error saying some keys are open
by the system or other process.

I am in safe mode and only regedit is open

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Chris

Hi

Have you tried to use the file in Windows 'normal' mode? It may not work in
Safe Mode, as not all drivers are loaded until you boot into Windows
'normal' mode

Install is not one of the options when I right click..only cut, copy,
create shortcut, delete, properties. The inf extension is not
asociated with a program. No extensions are associated with programs.

not sure what else to try.

Where should the inf file be installed? Should I add it to a bat file
from the command prompt and get it to load that way? Just trying a
couple of work arounds to get it to load.

Thanks

Not sure what else there is. It could be the PC has gone over the edge.

Either you would right-click on the INF file and choose install or you would have to execute
RUNDLL32 with switch parameters such as...

rundll32 syssetup,SetupInfObjectInstallAction DefaultInstall 128 c:\fixswen.inf

But you said you can't run an EXE file :-(

Which is similar, but not not as easy to work with, as the information Will Denny provided
in the URL...
