Explorer Toolbar disappeared!
Posted by nocozo on October 1st, 2005

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, with auto-updates "on" - so I
should have the latest of everything.

There are two logins setup on this computer. For one of the logins, the "My
Computer" folder windows don't show ANY toolbars (including the standard
"File / Edit / View / etc" toolbar!!). They disappeared sometime in the last
couple of days, and I can't figure out how to get them back. For example,
there isn't the standard toolbar available where normally I could tell it
which toolbars I want (under "view" and then "toolbars").

When I right-click on a folder and use "Explorer" (instead of the "My
Computer" view) everything looks okay. The other login is okay too - its
just a problem with the one login setup.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

See if the F11 key restores the correct view. If not, try this:

1. Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT.EXE
2. Navigate to the following location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Toolbar\ShellBrowser

3. In the right-pane, rename the value named "ITBarLayout" to
"OldITBarLayout"
4. Close the Registry Editor.
