Hi. I have a NEC DL 16X DVD+/-R/RW USB 2 EXTERNAL BURNER. I have Windows XP,
so there was no manual installation.

Here's my problem- I cannot burn DVD's. When I insert a DVD+R, it is read as
a blank "CD." And will "encounter problems" when I try to copy anything to
it. I have tried Nero, and drag and drop. When I insert a DVD-R, it is read
as a blank "CD" as well, but it's icon under My Computer says DVD-R (unlike
DVD+R's, which are read as CDs). It says it has zero free and used space.

I have tried to make DVD's using the wizard, but the temporary files
disappear, even though I am prompted about what to do with this "blank CD."
When I start the wizard before I insert blank DVD, as soon as I get to the
second step (after labeling the disk), I am told there is no disk inserted or
it is unrecordable.

I already know the burner is functioning properly- I took it to Best Buy and
had it tested, it works fine.

To fix my problem, I have had "CD recording" enabled under properties, I
have started IMAPI, I have reinstalled the drivers, even downloaded
XP_CD_DVD-Fix.zip but I still get the same results. And NeroInfoTool cannot
detect the external burner, either.

Someone please help, I am ALL out of ideas!
