- Extra window before User Window requires OK to continue
- Posted by MalcolmUK on February 18th, 2006
Immediately before User Window appears, sometimes an extra window appears.
This small window has no title on title bar, 2 or 3 random wingding
characters within basically a blank window and a OK button. I have to push
OK to proceed to User Window. This occurs in Safe mode with networking and
normal startup. It does not happen every time I start up.
Having OK'd this Window, everything seems to run ok - but is something else
running as well. Task Manager shows nothing
I had a Trojan Horse - I think called - Unwise.com - which put all my
Desktop shortcuts to .lnk files so that nothing would start from shortcuts on
Desktop and also stopped programs starting from Start -> Programs. This has
been removed and the registry fixed with recomended fixes and this all seems
to work ok.
I have run Norton 2006 and Housecall from housecall.trendmicro.com (really
recommended) - neither which showed any infections.
Any help would be appreciate

It could be a leftover from the infection. Open msconfig and look at the
startup tab for any suspicious entries. You might want to run a few more
malware programs as some find things missed by others.
