I'm using XP Professional SP2 with all updates/patches applied. I've seen
where several users are having difficulty with Fast User Switching throwing
them right back to the Welcome Screen. My problem, however, is slightly
different...
The system is in a workgroup environment. My account has Administrator
privileges and is password-protected. My wife's account also has
Administrator privileges, but is not password-protected. My daughter's
account has basic user privileges and is also not password-protected.
THE PROBLEM is that at irregular times (I can't seem to recreate the issue
at will) one of us will go to switch to another account on the system, and
will either be:
A.) Prompted for a password when logging into either my wife's or my
daughter's account (where no password exists). Blank passwords do not work.
Using MY password does not work. The only way to get around this when it
happens is to restart the computer and lose whatever work was going on in any
active accounts or open applications (I haven't lost any data yet, but it
could happen, y'know...); OR
B.) Prompted for a password when logging into MY account, only the correct
password doesn't work (it's one word all lowercase...and yes, I checked for
Caps Lock). If I then click on either my wife's or my daughter's account,
situation (A) above then happens again. Again, the only way to get around
this when it happens is to restart the computer.
Has anybody heard of this?
Thanks!
Eric
