- Folders: differnt shades of yellow
- Posted by deejaydee on January 11th, 2008
Hi readers,
Can anyone out there explain to me why ? Some folders seem to be
unlit.
I have a new Toshiba laptop , with a lot of folders as such . There
are folders within
others that are normal ,I am very wary about some of these. I checked
out service.msc by Blackfoot
There are 49 processes that startup when I switch on. This laptop takes
a long time to bootup compared
to my desktops which load within 90 secs. laptop probably 180 secs. This
morning I checked out all my
startup programs from msconfig 29 of them , googled each one to see if I
needed them, I disabled 9 of them.
answers shall be welcome.

The folders that appear lighter than usual are what's called "hidden" folders.
Most of these are created by XP and aren't meant to be accessed by the user. If
you go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View, I think you'll find that the
settings are configured to show these hidden files and folders. Change the
configuration and all of the these folders will not appear in Windows Explorer
or My Computer.
As for your startup issues, you might want to download this program from
Microsoft to examine what programs load at startup.
AutoRuns for Windows v9.0
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx
Once you've unzipped the download, launch autoruns.exe.
Click on the Logon tab.
Right click on each entry and select "Search Online" to research what this
program does.
Uncheck any that you don't need.
Good luck

Not quite sure about your description, but is it just becasue the
"unlit" ones are hidden folders?
As a test, in Explorer, go to Tools => Folder Options => View tab
Check the button 'Do not show hidden files and folders'.

Thanks to Nepatsfan and Claymore, For speedy replies.
You were so right about the folders [show hidden folders] which was
unchecked
As a matter of fact I downloaded Autoruns last night , but to the destop ,
have'nt had time
yet to run the program, will need to do the same for the laptop . Gets
confusing at times on which
computer I made changes to, I keep a written log on each desk . Log
everything
Have 2 desktops both dual boot + laptop
once again thank you both.
