Genuine XP Home Vs OME
Posted by Stephen on November 20th, 2005

Hi

A friend has XP Home but has misplaced his OME disc.

I have a Genuine XP Home disc.

He has problems with his system, I want to run;

sfc /scannow

But as you know it will ask for a XP disc.

I don't want to cause more problems, so before
I start does any one know if you can run a 'genuine XP disc
on someone else's computer to run problem solving things like
sfc /scannow ??

Cheers, Stephen

Hi,

You should be able to use it, just don't reinstall the OS with it and
attempt to use his Product Key as they won't match up. Best thing to do for
him would be to copy the I386 folder from the CD to his hard drive, then
redirect sfc to look there for any needed files. I wrote on how to do this
here: http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#I386

Stephen

As long as the installed OS is at the same level, it should work ok..
