- HELP HELP HELP EVERY SYSYTEM RESTORE POINT CANNOT BE RESTORED !!!
- Posted by sharon on October 17th, 2005
Every system restore point cannot be restored. I tried every one since July
and after the process at the end it says "system could not be restored". Why
can't I get my system to restore to a previous point? Is this program corrupt?

Hi
That error message would suggest that one or more of the System Restore
files have become corrupt. You can try turning SR off/on, although you will
lose all existing checkpoints:
Right click on My Computer and select Properties>System Restore. Enable
'Turn off System Restore on all drives' - then reboot your PC. Go back into
SR and disable 'Turn off...' and then reboot again. After the second reboot
you should have one new checkpoint and SR should work properly after that.

So which date of restore point will be good? I wanted to go back to at least
August perhasps July. Will it give me a restore of recently or back further?

You can only go back as far ass your earliest restore point saved on your
computer. System restore allocates a percentage of your hard drive as it's
repository to keep restore points. Once your restore points take up the
space allocated on your HDD, then older restore points are removed to make
room for new restore points. If there is corrupt data on your hard drive,
then your restore points will be corrupt, and thus you cannot restore from
them.
System restore is not a backup program. It will monitor certain files and
folders and return these files and folders back to the state they were at
the chosen restore point. System Restore does *NOT* back up all the data on
your hard drive.
