my friend recenty gave me his laptop to fix as he had spilt coffe on it

i took it appart clened it and then out it together again
when i start it up it goes to the dos screen and says that a file in
missing or something like that is there a way i can install windows
again from this screen or maybe install windows 2000

*If* everything is functional - yes - install whatever OS you have an extra
license for using the media and the normal installation methodology.

Well - that completely depends on the OS in question.
Unless you have modified (or someone has) the CD - almost all of them walk
you through the process. (Step by step.)
But you have to first set your machine to boot from CD drive first.. That's
done in the system BIOS (sometimes referred to as system setup when you turn
on your computer.)
