- HELP PLEASE!automatically logged off, when trying to log in to XP

when booting up windows welcome screen appears w/ log on info. so I enter my
password & it says loading... but as the desktop is loading(no icons appear)
& it automatically logs off, (saving users preferences) i cannot get to a c
prompt or system restore, and it does the same thing when I try any safemode
options.. any help appreciated, thanks -Nichole
