HELP!! Windows won't load past welcome screen
Posted by eric6556 on January 9th, 2006

Hi;
I'm running xp professional. This morning my machine just rebooted by
itself and then it took forever for windows to load in. At that point I got
as far as the login screen, logged in and that's where it sits. I ran chkdsk
and it did find errors and said it fixed them using the windows cd repair.
It still loads in to the login screen, I log in and it continues to stay at
the welcome screen "administrator - loading your personal settings". I
suspect i've been hit with some type of virus but don't know for sure. I
have a lot of info on this drive and really need to get this up and running.
Can someone help please? Thank you.

Eric

Try starting Windows in safe mode then do a system restore.

No luck, even in safe mode it goes to the welcome screen and stops there. I
even tried last known config and directory services restore mode. Any other
suggestions? Please help. Many thanks

I had the same problem. Try restoring your computer to a few days before you
started having your problem. Worked for me. good luck.
