Hibernation and standby mode problem
Posted by Adam on October 5th, 2005

Hello All,

I am having a problem with hibernation and standby mode on my Dell
Laptop. I have hibernation enabled and it used to work. I must have
installed something, along the way that stopped it from working. What
happens is, the system goes into hibernation mode, but won't come completely
out. The system's power comes on, but I never get anything on the display,
and am forced to cycle power to get the system back. BTW, I am running
Windows XP Pro SP2.

TIA,
Adam

I have read recently that there is an issue with this problem (it was a Dell
also). But, I'd suggest that you update your video drivers to the latest,
WHQL certified version for your system (usually available from the
manufacturer's website) as this solves most of the hibernation/standby
problems that I've encountered.

John,

I do have SP2, but I only have 512 MB of memory, so at least one thing
you mentioned can't be my problem. I guess I have the SP2 problem and must
either remove SP2 or wait until MS fixes the problem (Oh bother).

Thank you very much,
Adam
