- Hidden files in my C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\
- Posted by Don on January 5th, 2006
I have cleared my C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files folder several times, but folder properties says that there
are two files (totaling 147,523 bytes) still there (even though I cannot see
any files when I open the folder)
Additionally there is a vertical gray bar (runs from the top of that same
folder bottom .It wasn't there last month.
I have enabled "show hidden files" in my Folder Options (Control Panel).
I am the systems administrator.
I cannot delete the C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files folder (I receive the error "cannot be deleted critical to XP
operations)
Any attempt to encrypt the folder ( and its files) fails
I tried reloading my XP, but since I added SP2 it says that my version on
the CD is to older that the version that I have installed, and cannot be
loaded.
I have four spyware and fire wall products and I sweep every night....and
still cannot find out what those files are
I have been attacked several times in the past mont, and have traced the
user to an Internet Cafe in China
Is this anything to worry about

Hi
Go to a command prompt, change to that folder and then run the following
command:
dir /a/s
delete the files from there.
You wont be able to delete that folder - for the reason the message says.
