I used a wireless "Home Network" to connect my desktop and laptop WinXP(SP2)
machines so that I can keep key files synchronized. After bootup this
morning, I was unable too see my laptop files from the desktop and
vice-versa.
When that happened to me before, I was able to correct the problem by using
Network Setup Wizard to redo the home network setup on each machine. After
a dozen tries today, though, nothing worked -- the two computers still can't
"see" each other; they show only their own network names under."Microsoft
Windows|Mshome."
Both machines are connected to a DSL modem through a router (the desktop by
Ethernet cable, the
laptop by wireless pc card.) That direct internet connection works well on
both machines.
Clicking on "My Network Connections" shows two LAN high-speed connections on
the desktop::
1. "1394 connection" (but, no cable is connected and unused)
2. "connection 1" which connects to the DSL router by Ethernet cable .
The laptop shows three LAN high-speed connections:
1. "1394 connection" (but, no cable connected and unused)
2. "Wireless Network Connection" connected by wireless PC card to the
DSL router.
3. "Local Area Connection," identified as "Realtek RTL8129 Family PCI
Faster Ethernet NIC" (no cable connected and unused.)
I would greatly appreciate suggestions about what I should try to get my
home network reestablished. Also, I would be thrilled to provide further
information about my systems/settings if that would help with the
diagnosis.
Many thanks.
