- "host is in the black list" - unwanted filter
- Posted by Fred on February 20th, 2006
I get frequently the message "host is in the black list" instead of the
website I want or instead of ads. There must be a filter at work that I'm not
aware of. How can I find out the software behind this unwanted censorship -
and get rid of it? I use XP, IE6 and NOD32.

You have a modified HOSTS file and what ever modified version you have is
doing this.
Or you're running some anti-spyware program with real-time protection.

Look at the HOSTS file located at:
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
This file can be opened and edited using notepad.
See if the site you are trying to access is listed there.
If it is, you can either remove that entry or comment that line by placing
the # sign in front of it.
After editing the HOSTS file save it as HOSTS only, with no file extension.
For more details about using the HOSTS file see this

Hope this helps
