- How to Cleanup Registry
- Posted by Scott NOFX on December 30th, 2005
What is the best software to keep XP running at full speed?
Should the registry be cleaned?
I have had several problems that I have had to fix. (reinstalls)
Is there one tool that does it all?
I am a very heavy user.
Thanks,
Scott

"What is the best software to keep XP running at full speed?"
No software does this. The user does this, by learning how to maintain his computer and using it correctly.
"Should the registry be cleaned?"
No.
"I have had several problems that I have had to fix. (reinstalls)"
Reinstalling is not a "fix". Fixing something means understanding what went wrong and then taking steps to do it right. Reinstalling is "I don't understand what I'm doing wrong and/or I don't know how to fix it, so instead I'll just reinstall the thing."
"Is there one tool that does it all?"
Your brain. It's all you need and you've already got one.
"I am a very heavy user."
No one cares what you weigh. {;-) There is nothing in this world that can take the place of your own ability to learn and your good judgement. You have both, obviously, because you're asking these good questions.
"Thanks,
Scott"
So better get to work cause I'm going to be asking your advice pretty soon.

Your response is encouraging to those of us who try to just "use" our
computers. I'm sure there's no "quick fix" program that manages all these
invasive many-tentacled creatures that like to spread their little spores in
as many places on our computers as they can.
I get my computer alll tangled up in knots just because i like to use two
different photo programs at the same time. One is great for editting pic's,
but the other manages picture files better. Then if I want to listen to
music at the same time... forget it!
Then all the programs "protecting" me from viruses and spam are fighting
each other for control of MY computer.
I know I need to be more educated, that's why I'm here talking to you.
Please tell me where to find out if it's okay to let Google Autofill or AOL
have my Wallet info or if I should just type everything every time.
I love the Bluetooth wireless stuff, but I never know if it's going to
remember me or if I'll have to set it up all over again....

I appreciate any advise or direction from ALL of you who have been paying
attention.
Thanks!
Mary

I've no knowledge of "Google Autofill," whatever that is, but I can say
from years of experience that is's *not* safe or wise to have any AOL
software installed on a computer.
