a clue that wasn't mentioned in any W2K or W98 data that I saw. Now, the
DUN I created appears in Network Connections, as it normally would.
Now I only have one major glitch with XP, a non-functional Search
problem. No one here answered (?), it did not fit into the Search problem
posts here that I saw. so I will do a Google search and see about it.

Go back to the Control Panel, Internet Connections.
In the left side panel, select "Make new connection".
Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to the Internet manually using a dialup modem.
