- Installation CD Launches Wrong Install

Hello,
This is one of the stranger things I've seen my computer do!
I'm running WindowsXP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed and updated.
I have an installation disc for Fuji FinePix digital camera. In the past,
I've been able to install this software onto my hard drive with no problems
at all. Today though, I don't have this software on my computer and I need
to install it so I can retrieve pictures from my digicam. I'm on a business
trip soon, and I need the space on the camera.
When I try to install the software, for some strange reason it opens NVIDIA
drivers installation. What in the world could be causing this weird
occurrence? The only thing I can think of is that the last time I
successfully installed this software, I didn't have Service Pack 2 updated.
Come to think of it, I'm not even sure I had Service Pack 2 installed at
all. I've tried this installation in the DVD drive, as well as the CD-RW
drive and also the 'F' drive, which is an external DVD burning drive, all
with the same result.
If I leave the Fuji installation disc in for long enough, it will try to
install QuickTime, or Windows Media Player. It tries to install whatever it
wants. If it wanted to install new carpet in my condo, I might let it
proceed, but for the time being... this is annoying enough :-)
I'd sure appreciate any advice.

You shouldn't need to install any software for the camera, the USB drivers are
all that should be needed. Once the camera is connected to a USB port and it's
detected/installed it should be ready to use. To transfer the files from the
camera to a folder on the hard drive, open either MyComputer or Explorer, Expand
the camera/usb device in the tree and drag/drop the files from the cameras
folder to the hds folder.
If for some reason the software is required, check Fuji's support site and
download/install the software for your specific make/model per their
instructions.

That is amazing... it works just fine. I'd never have known. Now I'm
wondering what the installation disk is for? You know what? At this point
I don't really care... because my camera and my computer are working
together like a couple of good team-mates.
Thanks for your help. It was ready to go all the time, and I didn't even
know it. My computer had no reference that I could find... to Fuji. So I
just assumed I had to install this software. Thanks a million.

You're quite welcome, glad to help. The bundled software included with many
peripherals is nothing more than bottom of the barrel crap as far as I'm
concerned. Basically it's included with basic (not full) functionality as a
marketing strategy w/hopes users will upgrade (pay) for a fully functional
program. Very very few in my eyes have any real useful purpose for the end
user.

To head off any other problems, note that while this is true for Fuji
cameras and many others, it is not universally true. Some cameras do
require a specific driver and/or software.

has its own "listed" of installed applicatiions that were down with

place it in the correct media slot. Then, this card becomes a regular
"removable drive."
Note: - Memory Stick media cards are mainly for Sony cameras.
- Smart Media media cards are one of the first media type
and have fallen out
of use with newer cameras
- Card readers have "physical" capacity limits on them.
Unless they state
differently, they should have mention of what is their max
capacity to can
use.
- SD (Secure Digital) and SDHC (Secure Digital High
Capacity) are not
directly interchangable. SDHC cards can only be read with
SDHC readers,
which can also read CD cards. SD readers can only read SD
cards and
then only up to the specified max capacity.

Which is why I mentioned "If for some reason the software is required" and
supplied the manufacturers support site link since I had no specific make/model
of the camera in question in order to check it out.
