iPod and USB problems
Posted by John on April 28th, 2008

A friend of mine just rang me because he's just got an iPod for his birthday
but when he plugs it into a USB port on his PC, an error message pops up
saying something like "Unknown device. A device has been plugged into a USB
port but Windows does not recognize this device" or something along those
lines - he wasn't very clear about it.

If it was a USB printer, for instance, I'd say that it needed to have
drivers installed but I haven't got an iPod so I don't know, and he doesn't
think it came with a CD - he's at work at the moment so can't be sure.

I would have thought though, that it just shows up in "My Computer" as a
removable drive doesn't it?

Anyway, I'm going round to see him tomorrow night so does anyone have any
idea what I could do to help him?

Thanks,

John

It should have said as much in the box when iPod was purchased. Documentation

Thanks to you all. It was the fact that he didn't have iTunes on his

I am returning my Ipod because I have too many USB problems. Sometimes I
have to use an old USB 1.1 (new firmware or recovery, thats the only way to
do it without a crash) and for the rest I can only 2 of my USB 2.0 (sync).

Apple suck.
