Jumping Cursor & Touchpad
Posted by Mophiee on April 24th, 2006

I have a problem with my cursor, that only started yesterday following a
System Wipe. I had to wipe the harddrive, now when I am typing the cursor
jumps to a different part of the sentence/page and starts tpying there.

Having read some of the similiar complaints on here, I think i have to turn
off my touchpad, but haven't got a clue how.

I am running a Toshiba, Sat Laptop.

ANy help greatly appreciated, it's driving me CRAZY!!

Place a piece of cardboard over the touchpad and try an external mouse. If the problem goes
away, it is the Touchpad.

Hi Mophiee,

Check for the latest touchpad driver for your make and model. Go to the
following site and click on Downloads.

Hi David,

Thanks for the response. I don't have an external mouse to plug in, however
yesterday I noticed that the touchpad wouldn't work properly for when i
wanted to scroll down. Usually i just drag my finger down the touchpad and
the page would roll down. Yesterday it stopped.

Have put a piece of paper over the touchpad though and the jumping cursor
has stopped so far.

How do I turn off the touchpad?

Go into the BIOS settings of the notebook. There should be an option for disabling the
touchpad.

I see this problem *very* often.

This BIOS suggestion worked for me.

Bert,

Thank you so much for the advice (and everyone else too) I went onto the
Toshiba website you gave me, downloaded a driver and so far *touch wood* it
hasn't done it again

Thanks EMma

Glad to hear it.

I have a Toshiba also, and have downloaded all available drivers from
there site, and keep them handy.

I've had the same sort of problem for over a week with my new Dell Inspiron
2200 laptop. Even while writing this the cursor has jumped several times.
I've taken notes on the replies and will try them. I need some solution.
The computer is not very usable under these conditions. I had the same
problem on my old Toshiba laptop and didn't solve it before screen quit.
I've had antispy and antiviral programs.
