I just upgraded to Win XP from Win2K... During install i chose the clean
install, NOT the upgrade method. Now, however, i have 2 win folders,
namely C:/WINDOWS and C:/WINNT. Obviously the winnt is the old win2K
installation... BUT IT IS STILL THERE!!!! Can i just delete that folder
then remove the win2K option from boot loader???

First - you did not perform a "clean" install.. You performed (perhaps) a
parallel install - but it was not an upgrade or a clean install. An Upgrade
would have used the winnt directory to install into. A true clean install
would have entailed you deleting and recreating the partitions (or at least
formatting.)

Not knowing exactly how things went during your install, I hesitate to tell
you erasing the WinNT directory is safe. It may well be.

However - if all you really want is a true CLEAN install of Windows XP - I
suggest you start clean.. Boot from the CD and when it asks you where to
install this time - delete the current partition(s), create new partition(s)
and format the partitions to install on.. That way you know there are no
fragments of the old OS flaoting around.

Just add to Shenan's advise. If you decide to perform a clean install, make
sure you disconnect all USB Drives, Zip drives and disconnecting a second or
third hard drive, if any. Then you will be guaranteed your boot drive with
Windows installed on it will be the C drive and you will not come back here
asking how to change the drive letter to C.

A clean install is where you format the installation partition so everything
that was there is gone. You did not do a clean install, or Windows 2000
would not still be there. You did a parallel install of Windows XP to the
same partition that Windows 2000 was installed on.

There is no way, at this point, to eliminate all traces and baggage of
Windows 2000. I suggest you start over and do it the correct way, booting
from the Windows XP CD and formatting the current Windows 2000 partition.
