- Linksys Wireless Conflict
- Posted by EltonRon on November 14th, 2005
I've been trying to install a Linksys Wireless WMP54-G card into my desktop,
but it apparently is causing a conflict with my Soundblaster Audigy2 card.
Each card works fine individually (i.e. the Linksys or the Sound Card), but
when they are installed together, the system simply keeps re-booting and
never goes into Windows.
I'm using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and I have the latest
drivers installed for each card. Both Linksys and Creative are telling me
that it's an OS issue, yet I can find nothing on the Microsoft support site
to tell me how to resolve the problem.
I did notice that both cards are being assigned IRQ17, so I manually
assigned the PCI slot IRQ settings (from "Auto"), however this seems to have
done no good at all. When I view "System Settings" it still assigns that
IRQ. And then I go into the device manager for each card and click on the
"Resources" tab, the "Automatically assign" box is checked, but it's
grayed-out, so I can't change the IRQ settings manually from there at all.
Since both hardware manufacturers are telling me it's an OS issue and that
there's nothing they can do to help, does anyone know if there is a solution,
in terms of either an XP or bios tweak that may fix this problem? (I've
also Already run Windows Update and I've verified that I have the latest bios
version, which for this motherboard is AMI 5.7. The motherboard itself is an
msi Ultra2 KT3).
Any information at all would be GREATLY appreciated, since it's been three
days now that I've been trying to resolve this issue and I'm just about ready
to throw the whole thing out the second story window!!
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

It seems that I have the same problem. I use a SMC WPCI-G wifi card and some
old onboard sound chip (I can check the specs out later). Both have the same
IRQ assigned and I cannot change it in the bios.
My machine does not loop into endless reboots though, but simply hangs at
boot.
I am not really convinced that the cause is an IRQ conflict, because the
machine used to share the IRQ between sound card and an old ethernet card
without fuzz.
I am sure it s not the card because i`ve tested it on another machine.
If anyone has a good suggestion...

Had this one too. Suspect the 1394 socket on the Audigy and disable if
you don't use it. Also look carefully at PCI slots in relation to both
these cards ie on my MSI KT6 delta MOBO No 1 PCI slot shares an IRQ with
3. In my instance I swapped an Intel modem card in at the 5th PCI slot
for the card that was there, put the Linksys wireless card on PCI 2 and
the audigy on PCI 4. I used 3 for a while for and extra USB2 card until
it was moved on to some where more useful. Whatever, everything has gone
well for the past year since doing this bit of juggling with no more
conflicts. Maybe it will work for you?

If that MBD has a built in LAN port, try disabling it.

Forget about the sound card. It s the video. I do not understand, since it
uses another IRQ.
It s an old onboard trident blade 3d/mvp4 on an old amd machine with an old
crappy compaq bios.
I ve updated the video and wifi drivers but without success.
I guess I can forget playing doom3
Even excel has become an ordeal.
