- Lost file while deleting content
- Posted by Kip on November 15th, 2005
Is there any way to get the download for a file that got deleted when I was
cleaning out XP content? I am taking this PC to my daughter in OR and while I
was deleting content she won't need, file: \WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM
got deleted and I can't find the setup CD. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, you'll need your original Windows XP CD.

Kip,
You should be able to recover the SOFTWARE hive from your recent System
Restore point (if available), using the procedure documented here:

starting:

In future, backup the registry hives regularly. Using ERUNT is your best
bet.

Hi,
Yes, I suppose you can restore erased data using data restoration
tools. Among them I can pose out Active@ undelete and Uneraser (DOS).
It worked really great for me and never failed before. I'm really sure
it will be able to restore lost file.
