memory problems/ virtual memory
Posted by Robert J. Lafayette on February 12th, 2006

Receiving a message with a DVD encoding
software that virtual memory is taxed.

It is a new problem with a software that was formerly working fine.
I uninstalled software and reinstalled.

Computer has crashed several times also.

I see in the quick message that shows just before shutdown something about
memory.

I think I also saw the words 'dump memory'

Attached is information from an Intel utility.
Please advise what I should adjust if anything at all.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

Also:
I set virtual memory to 500 min and 500 max, based on something
I saw written in another message in this newsgroup.

Robert

Please post a copy of the Stop Error message.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

I feel hopeful as the screen always seemed to flash right on by.

Had several crashes just an hour ago.

I then readjusted virtual memory but I recall seeing the
words dump memory prior to the recent crash..

(I am anticipating a complete HDD format and reinstallation of Windows XP
Home Sp2, with all the software that is applicable.
I have a 250 Gb HDD external and will backup all my important folders and
files.)

I simply think I have too much junk and gunk on this system,
which is four years old...

But now with
Your instructions
1) "Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly."

2) "There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies."

which were clear and concise I should be able to make sense of this all, and
catch the cause of the error..

How can I copy error reports to send from event viewer?

Too bad I did not know this before hand!

Will advise newsgroup
next time via a new newsgroup post with information a crash occurs, ...

Thank you,
Robert
