Sorry i'll rephrase. How do I find the make and info on my motherboard
without going online, on a WinXP Home system, without the use of third party
software etc.etc. I've looked in device manager and system information but
cannot find anything specific enough to download latest drivers/Bios flash
etc.etc. from another PC.

Thanks

Without going on-line or using any 3rd party software is "tricky" since
Windows does not provide any utility to do this directly. If you want to do
this, follow these steps:

1) Shutdown Windows
2) Un-plug the PC
3) Open the computer case (if standard desktop/tower case)
4) With a flash-light, carefully look for the make/model description on the
motherboard.

Belarc advisor is a lot easier and safer if you are not comfortable opening
up your computer case.

Start > Run > Enter msinfo32
The System Summary should show basic info, including BIOS version, re your
motherboard.

Go Run>msinfo32>system summary - board manufacturer will be listed under
"System Manufacturer" and board model under "System Model". BIOS version
and date also listed further down the listing.

Thats not reliable.
For my system it reads:
System Manufacturer NVIDIA
System Model AWRDACPI

When what i'm really using is an ECS N2U400-A w/ Nvidia Chipset

S. Taylor:
Yes, you're correct in that the System Summary info that can be accessed
through msinfo32 is not reliable 100% of the time in that it doesn't always
identify the precise name & model of the manufacturer's motherboard. But
it's certainly worth a shot since in *many* cases it will make a correct
identification of such, even including the BIOS revision. And even when it
doesn't make a *precise* identification, there'll be sufficient clues in the
info provided so that the user can ascertain the info he or she needs to
contact the manufacturer and/or download drivers, etc.

The most obvious places to look would be in the computer's manual
or on the computer manufacturer's web site. Failing that:

1) Start > Run > MSinfo32.exe.

or

2) Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information.

or

3) Start > Run > DXDiag.exe.

or

4) Right-click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager.

or

5) If none of the built-in tools provide the information you want, you
can use these utilities to help determine the answer to your question:
