- New hardware found causes services.exe high utilization
- Posted by Jamboni on December 29th, 2005
Hi,
I have winxp home. running on a dell dimension 3000 that is updated to
service pak 2.
When it finds new hardware, the services.exe goes to 100% utilization. Can't
add new hardware wether it be a hard drive, usb flash drive or ipod.
When I backed down to service pak 1 I was able to add all theses devices.
Used MS update to go back to sp2. Things were still ok. I then removed the
ipod and install it's software like the instruction said. This installed the
itunes software and quicktime. Tried reconnecting ipod and it causes services
to go to 100 % again.
Any thoughts would be appreciated

Check with Dell to see if there are any SP2 updates to their USB
drivers. OR, if the 3000 uses an Intel chipset, you can check with
Intel for the latest chipset drivers.
