Notification area: right-click on an icon also brings up taskbar m
Posted by lee on March 24th, 2008

Hello,

I've had this bug for ages but sometimes, like now, I trawl the internet in
the hope of finding one solitary person who has the same problem .... as
always I've failed in my searches, so I'm trying here.

Essentially, the problem is, with some applications' icons in the
notification area, when I right-click on it to access its context menu,
sometimes the context menu also comes up for the windows taskbar. Almost as
if the cursor is partly 'mis-aiming' on where it is clicking.

Something I've noticed about this behaviour, seemingly consistently, is that
the 'double menu' problem does not happen if first i left-click on the blue
area of the taskbar.
If however I first left-click on the desktop for example, the problem happens.
The problem is inconsistent by the way, sometimes it happens and other times
not.

For reference, I'm currently using a new XP Home install of only a few days,
fully up to date, except I haven't installed IE7 or the cumulative IE6
security update which creates the annoying 'click here' glass/window over
active browser items such as flash.
Maybe ironically, the only way I previously found to stop this unwanted
'double menu' behaviour, was as a side effect of running Regseeker and
letting it delete every 'un-necessary' entry that it found.

So, any ideas how I can stop this small but annoying bug?

Thanks a lot,
Lee in England
