I am running XP Home edition on a nearly new Dell Dimension 3000. I started
having problems with a small box appearing in the bottom left of the
desktop/window/browser with green led writing in. The box would appear
briefly with e-mail written in it and then outlook would open. other apps
opened for no reason with this box appearing just before. I ran anti-virus
overnight and it had closed itself down. The system was putting itself in
stand by etc. When i successfully ran AV, all i got back was a couple of
tracking cookies and a Trojan, but after deletion i still had the problems. I
cleared the hard drive of what i could and it seemed to cure most of the
problems, but i still get freezing windows, the mouse pointer jumps and the
right click menu appears for no reason. Somehow i discovered that if i
CTRL-ALT-DEL to get the task monitor up, it frees the window so that i can
work in it again. I have run in safe mode with no improvement and checked
mouse and keyboard drivers. I have also re-installed XP, though from a back
up of the OS that i didn't do until the problem started (stupid, i know!). I
have 1gig of RAM.
Anybody got any ideas?? I am not a technical type, so laymans terms would be
good.
