Operating System not found
Posted by BackdoorBobby@gmail.com on November 10th, 2005

I have a notebook Pc with xp/2000 on it. It started giving me a blue
screen saying that windows had to shut down because a system critical
proccess was unexpectidly terminated. It would go one to say that the
cause may be new / changed hardware or software. Except there haven't
been any changes in hardware. The only software change was the removal
of AVG and the addition of Norton AV. But, that was about a week ago.
Now when I reboot I am getting an "Operating System Not Found" message.
Which will usually go away on the next reboot, it's kind of a gamble.
Sometimes it boots and it will work of a while until the blue screen.
Sometimes it just give the "OS not found message". It is also running
real....real... slow. With what seems like an excessive use of the hard
drive.
If anyone has had this problem please let me know. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Could very well be that the hard drive is going bad. Run whatever
diagnostics the hard drive manufacturer has for the drive and see what it
says.

And you might want to back up whatever you need to save, just in case the
drive suddenly decides to fail completely.

Good call, lol. I got the dreaded OS not found message. I shut it down
and was waiting to get a hold of a usb drive to back everything up.
That was the last time it ever started RIP. Plugged a new drive in and
it is up and running again. Better and faster than before. Thanks for
the help everyone.
