- Outlook Address Book... Contacts import
- Posted by Bob on December 8th, 2005
I am on XP Home and use Outlook as my email system. My hard drive crashed I
had to install a new one. I had all the data restored from my bad drive and
have it on an external hard drive, which I can access.
How can I copy the old Address Book Contacts to my new hard drive for use in
Outlook? I can't find the old file (I'm not sure what to look for).

Search for *.wab which is the file type. Knowing where it is, you can
"import" it into outlook under the "File"? dropdown or somewhere like that.

I did the search on the new external hard drive and found a foulder that had
the .wab extension. When I tied to do an import in Outlook the only option
that looked close "Import from another program of file: and then the next
option was "Personal Address Book". When I went thru the import process I
browsed until I found that .wab location. It showed no file there. Maybe the
Import engine was looking for a Personal Address Book instead of a Contacts
file.
Does this make ANY sense?

Outlook stores all data in one large .pst file. If you were using XP and
Outlook on your old drive then search for .pst files. It is usually in
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and called outlook.pst. There may also be an archive.pst which would be old,
archived items.

I found a .pst file under " Documents and Settings\user_name\Local
Settings\Application > Data\Microsoft\Outlook ". What do i do with it? I
didn't see an option under Outlook /Import to importa .pst file.

File ==> Open ==> Outlook Data file
I can't remember the procedure to import the data but the above will allow
you to view it and possibly export the contacts. Maybe someone else will
chime in or you could try Google
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...oogl e+Search
Or even Help in Outlook.
