I was hoping i could redirect it to word or a similar program but didnt know
how to do that.
I know I can go out and purchase works but cant afford to do that at this
time.
Any other suggestions

Are you talking about an attachment file? What extension does that file
have?

No, its not an attachment, I believe it was sent through and old version of
works-which I dont have-how do I read the file extension-I was aked to enter
it and have another program open it but I didnt know where to find the file
extension!

To see file extensions in XP, go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options >
View > Uncheck 'Hide file extensions for known file types'. Then go to
Tools > Folder Options > File Types and scroll down to find the file type
and the application it opens with.

However, most files that have the extension .exe, .dll. or .com should best
be left alone, unless you know for certain what they are.
