- Please help - Windows XP will not boot, weird behaviour
- Posted by MJ Wiechowski on January 16th, 2006
HI.
Sorry for my bad English.
My Windows XP will not boot any more - not in normal mode, not in safe mode.
What I get is
- first the empty desktop, with background picture but no icons
- then "Welcome" screen
- then my user id and an image which I am supposed to click on to log in
- when I click to log in, the system will tell me it is saving my settings
and then will log off me again and I am back where I started.
I suppose this could be a virus.
What can I do besides reinstalling Windows?
Kind regards and thanks

Hi,
Abuot a month ago, I began having a similar problem. I run XP
home. I can however, boot into safe mode. What was happening was that
each time I woud start the PC or reboot, on the first attempt, it would
automatically shut down just a little while after my desk top began to
load. A subsequent attempt, would always boot fine. Yesterday however,
it took 6 tries to get it to finally boot andf today it will not boot
at all.
It boots into safe mode but once there, I don't have any idea what
to do. I tried a system restore all the way back to October but it did
not fix the problem.
Anyt ideals? I am typing this on my laptop.
Thanks, Erdaram
