- Problems after uninstalling Norton Antivirus 2004
- Posted by Greg on January 28th, 2006
I uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2004 in preparation for installing another
Antivirus program (which I have not installed yet).
Now I can no longer print from Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, and
some web pages do not load completely. Also, if I click on Page Setup in
Internet Explorer, nothing happens. If I click on Print Preview in Internet
Explorer, a blank page comes up and then I can't shutdown Internet Explorer
without using End Process in Task Manager.
Using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Symantec. Uninstalling Symantec
applications is sometimes harder than removing a virus. Go to Symantec's
support and search for "uninstall Norton Antivirus 2004" You need a program
called rnav2003.exe. You may have to re-install NAV 2004 then follow the
directions for uninstalling it. If you have other Symantec programs
installed the process is even more complicated. One procedure I have used
that works is to uninstall all Symantec and Norton programs listed in
Add/Remove Programs. Run rnav2003.exe. Once NAV is uninstalled then you may
have to re-install the other Symantec programs that you want to keep. They
have a new procedure with a program called SymNRT that I have not tried yet.
Try searching their support for it. The links to their site are too long to
post and I personally won't click on obsured url's like tinyurl so I can't
post the links.

Thanks for the info - This seems to have solved my problem. Norton Antivirus
is removed and all computer functions seem to work fine,

Did you use rnav2003 or symnrt?

I used symnrt to remove version 2004 and rnav2003 to remove remnants of
version 2003.

Thanks, It's always good to know what works. I used to see the problem a
lot. Lately it seems many people have ditched Norton and are using other
anti-virus products so it's less common.
