hi,

i've had the same problem. i'm using earthlink total access software, and i
found that if i sign out of the earthlink taskbar the problem goes away.
this, of course, does not fix the problem in e-mail, or anything that
requires the earthlink taskbar to be active, but it does take care of it when
using any application that doesn't require internet access.

i did get in touch with earthlink about this; their advice was their usual -
uninstall, re-install from disk, etc. i haven't bothered to do that; i'm
thinking it's easier and quicker to just switch isps...
