Posted by macy on January 23rd, 2008

As my windows xp acting slow as a snail, i intend to reinstall windows
to the

drive C(only windows files stored on it). I also have drive D and
drive E used

for store my personal data. But before reinstallment i reformatted the
whole

hard disk by mistake. The problem is: i did not back up drive D and E.
So the

data were gone.
i downloaded free data recovery software from software website but it
didn't

work. Should i turn to other unfree software or take my hard disk to

professional data recovery company? Anyone has suggetion on it?
Thanks!!!

perhaps, if the file system
you wiped out was a ntfs,
then maybe it can come
out of a coma with something
like this:

http://www.diskinternals.com/ntfs-recovery/

------------------

what you can do is to use
another computer as the one
to operate on the patient/disk.

attached it that comatose disk as
a slave disk on a functional pc,
then download a trial version of
the above program onto the master
disk of the working computer.

(remember that disks have a
tiny jumper in the back to assign
them as slaves or masters disks)

then from the working computer
run the program and see if it
can locate any recoverable files.

if so, then the disk may regain
conscious with a program
like the above.

----------------

if the original partition was
not a ntfs and was instead
a regular fat file system, then
there is no hope, unless you
use a professional company
that salvages disks and data.
