Reinstallation of XP from Linux Fedora Core 4
Posted by NHdellman on November 24th, 2005

To anyone who can help-
While I was away in Europe, my friend formatted my laptop hard drive and
installed Red Hat Fedora core 4 as my only operating system. I've tried to
reinstall Xp from my installation disk, but when I boot from the disk, the
screen just goes blank and I have to restart my system. I have a Dell
inspiron 5160 with HT technology. I thought it would boot from the BIOS but I
think it has something to do with the linux bootloader or something. I don't
know much about Linux at all to do anything with that. I am looking for some
instructions to follow. Thanks to anyone with the knowledge to tackle this
problem.

-Need XP

If your laptop had a hidden restore partition and your friend deleted it
when installing Linux then you'll have to contact Dell to purchase a set of
restore CD's. If he didn't delete it then you may be able to boot with a
Linux boot CD and delete the boot loader and Linux partitions. Then you
should be able to do the restore through the BIOS. It is a complicated
procedure. If your friend can't or won't help you then ordering the Dell
CD's is probably the way to go.
