How do I get rid of old user folders in the docs and settings folder after
reinstalling windows. I receive a error message telling me access id denied.

'Take ownership' of the folders and then delete them.

Think of it this way: When you reinstalled, XP created a new user account
for you. The old folders belong to some other user account, as far as XP is
concerned. When you take ownership, you are telling the operating system
"these folders belong to me". And XP replies "Oh, now I understand..."
