- Removing unchecked programs from "System Configuration Utility" "Startup"?

Does anyone know how to get rid of all the unused items in "Startup"
of the XP "System Configuration Utility"? Most of them are duplicates
and triplicates of programs that I've had to stop at one time and then
restart using msconfig.
