renaming system files
Posted by Jason on May 1st, 2006

Hi,

Was just wondering if it is possible to change filenames in documents and
settings.

Have tried to rename a file but I get an error message telling me that this
is a windows system file and cannot be renamed.

I'm assuming it has to do with file paths and stuff but being an IT
illiterate i'm not sure if it can be worked around.

Any help on this would be great

Cheers

Jason

Why would you want to rename a system file?

Hi there,

In documents and settings there are 2 files - all users and 1 with my name
on it as i am selling this computer I was trying to tidy it up for the next
person and have set up passwords for them etc but when it comes up to enter
password it still has my name.

I have changed the account name and password and at start up the new name
appears but when the screensaver locks my name appears when entering the
password.

I found my name still in documents and settings and thought this may be the
problem

Cheers

Hii create a new account with desired user name and delete the existing
account that should remove the folder as well.
