Retrieving files in recycle bin
Posted by jeffsher@registerednurses.com on February 20th, 2006

I have a 2nd hard drive (F) that has about 6 gb of files that
apparently are in the recycle bin, but not visible when I click on the
recycle bin icon on my desktop.

When I do the dir /a/s command, they show up as being in
F:/Recycler/etc. How do I retrieve these files? Thanks.

Paste F:/Recycler into Start | Run and click OK.

The Recycler folder is used only on NTFS partitions. The Recycler folder
contains a Recycle Bin for each user that logs on to the computer, sorted by
their security identifier (SID).

%systemdrive%\RECYCLER\Your SID # is YOUR Recycle Bin.

The Recycler folder is used only on NTFS formatted drives. It's a Hidden
folder.

Security identifiers (SIDs) are numeric values that identify a user or
group.

Right click the Recycle Bin on your Desktop | Properties |
Global tab | Select: Use one setting for all drives |
Click Apply | Click OK

Now the Recycle Bin on your Desktop should show all your drives.

I did the F:/Recycler, and the window that popped up was empty. Under
"details", it says "Attributes: hidden". I did go to Tools>folder
options>view and the "show hidden files and folders" is already
checked/ticked. I checked the properties of the recycle bin, and the
"use one setting for all drives" was already selected", yet I can only
view the files from the C drive in my recycle bin. Any other
suggestions, or is there something I'm not doing right? Thanks.

Do you have Norton Utilities or SystemWorks? Or Norton anytning?

Norton Protected Recycle Bin

Right click the Recycle Bin | Properties | Norton Protection tab

Nprotect is part of Norton Utilities. (It replaces the default recycle
bin.) It prevents the user from accidentally deleting data from the PC and
Recycle Bin. Adds an extra layer of safety before you remove deleted files
from the Recycled Bin.
