- something went wrong ?

just recently I can no longer read cd's or disks,
the 16 bit window that comes up says-
C\windows\system32\--------
the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows
applications.
appearently I have done or changed something.
Can anyone help me ?????
