SP2 dissappeared
Posted by sherbetdab on September 28th, 2005

i have had sp2 for some time now. in the past week it seems to have vanished
from my pc. i am on 2M broadband and noticed my speed had reduced
considerably. so i ran spybot which told me i was infected by sumom.a,i run
norton anti virus but it has failed to pick this up. live update doesn't work
on norton and when i try to use windows updates it is telling me i dont need
any updates. system restore soesn't work on my machine now. can't get into
windows security settings. spybot deleted sumom.a but i think it may still be
present somewhere in my system. any help would be appreciated.

You need to run a virus cleaner. Try Housecall and Panda here: Online
Virus/Trojan Scans and Vulnerability Checks
http://virusall.com/downscan.shtml
Spybot isn't equipped to deal with viruses.

If you have anti-vir installed try running it in safe mode (tapping F8 while
booting up).

If you Google sumom.a you'll see lots of info about it on the web.

KB898461 but the download keeps failing so i downloaded manually from windows
site. now update tells me i need sp2 but when i try to download it keeps
failing and tells me i need the following as well. and Security Update for
Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)
