- SQL server invalid instance name
- Posted by Brad on November 14th, 2005
Does anyone know what this means? I was attempting to load a MDSE server
engine related to a estimating program and when I ran the setup.exe file from
the program CD it started for a brief time and then gave me this mesage: The
specified instance name is invalid.
Please help - Thanks

Usually, an application that needs MSDE will install it during its setup and
not require any action from the user.
If you are, in fact, supposed to install MSDE manually, your application
should come with some specific instructions. There are several essential
settings that are supplied as command line parameters to MSDE setup; it is
not likely to work without those.
