svchost.exe blocked from accessing network
Posted by shadoe on October 3rd, 2005

I have 6 svchost.exe files in my Task Mngr. under processes. At one time a
week or so ago, I kept getting a msg popup that asked me if I wanted to let
this file (looked like spy or malware) scvhost.exe was mentioned in the
popup, to connect to the network, I said no. Ever since I keep getting this
message popup about every 15 minutes and I check don't ask me again, to no
avail.
======================================
"An application named Generic Host Process
for Win32 Services (filename svchost.exe)
has been blocked from accessing the
network."
"Do not show this window again"
======================================
How can I ALLOW it to access the network...I don't even know which of these
svchost.exe files in the Task Mngr. is the ONE. I'd appreciate any help I
can get.

Check this link to see what svchosts are running. Some are Trojans, it
should not show in msconfig startup
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.p...er=svchost.exe

Did you check the startup tab, at the top right?
I guess you already found it but here it is click start, run, msconfig (in
the box) click the startup tab at top right. To my understanding, if
"svchost.exe" is shown, it is a trojan.

Sorry, should have finished, if it doesn't show up in the startup list,
it's probably ok to let it access the network, however, I would run a scan
with every virus and spyware scanner I had first. I have six of svchosts
running in the task manager with no problems. Your firewall may be blocking
it, you would have to configure that to let it through.

Great Rob, thank you. I found the startup but there is no svchost.exe in
there. Actually, that's too bad, if it was there then I would know where my
problem was. (( I am stuck for what to do now.

I found (in firewall) a reference to this ONE (the legit file) and found a
pull down window which had http port 80 in it, so I checked THAT...as soon
as I closed it another window popped up asking me if I wanted to let that
file access the network and I checked YES and remember my answer. I think I
may have found it Rob...Thanks to you. I just never thought about the
firewall for some reason.
Cheeeeeez Rob...I really appreciate your help. So far so good. ))
