What happens if you reboot? Do they appear? Does the desktop and the taskbar
not appear? If you press the WinKey or CTRL + ESC do they appear?

I have the same problem. Rebooting does not bring it back. I have looked
through desktop settings.
Wonder if it has anything to do with "Active Desktop".
Any ideas?

I went to the site below, and picked problem with my taskbar, and it came
back to normal. My problem started after I added the Microsoft Media Player
toolbar to the taskbar. That somehow got rid of the programs I had opened in
the taskbar. After downloading and installing the program, my taskbar was
back to normal.

When yousay your buttons disappeared, do you mean opened programs? Any
window that I attempt to minimize seems to do so off screen. I can't see
them at all! I can see what's running in the task manager, but where did
they go? I went to the site you mentioned and my antibirus software said
something about "malicious" something or other. I'm afraid to download from
this site.

Yes, my opened programs weren't on the taskbar, just the QuickLaunch bar and
the icons for my programs to load.
Your anti-virus software warned you because the program is a .vbs file,
which some viruses were using one of those file extensions. I just hoped
that I could trust this site, so I downloaded the file:
Restore to XP Default * (clickable)
Had the file saved to the desktop, then after downloading, I scanned the
file with my anti-virus program, Norton AntiVirus 2006, and it checked out
fine. I then loaded the program, then re-start your computer and I got my
taskbar working again.
