Almost every day for the past two weeks, when I start my computer,
there's a notice that realnetworks can't connect to the Internet (I've
forgotten the exact words), and I've simply closed that window.

Occasionally, though, I also get a "low-risk" Norton alert that
temp3.exe is attempting to connect to a DNS server, and I can't close
that; I must choose to always allow, always block, or manually create
a firewall (don't know what this last option entails).

Several times I've turned off the computer just to escape this Alert.

Does this temp3.exe alert relate to the Real problem? Is temp3.exe a
program that is utilized by other applications besides Real? Should I
allow or block temp3.exe? If I block it, will other applications be
affected?

Last week I repaired a pretty badly infected machine
and in addition to many other problems...also saw the temp3.exe

I used spybot S & D to clean the machine...
and even had to do a little manual deletion...but *eventually* got the
machine fixed.

I suggest getting Spybot S&D then run it.

Just a hunch but I think Norton is probably missing quite a bit

I would suggest that this is likely an indication of system infection. I
see you have a Norton product installed, and would suggest that it's either
missed the item or has been compromised.

I did some fooling around with my own system and those temp_.exe are
created by Real Player.
So they are not critically dangerous. Probably more of an annoyance than
anything
