trouble with reinstalling paint/calculator
Posted by nncybeth on May 2nd, 2006

my husband ran a disk cleanup on our computer and in the process deleted
paint and calculator from our computer and i need them back. i have done
some reading around on here and gone to add/remove programs and tried to
reinstall them. it starts the process and then prompts for the service pack
2 cd. i put it in the cd drive, hit ok, it takes me to another screen and i
hit and ok again, and then it doesn't do anything. there is a browse section
with which directory to look in. i have tried it with the default entry and
just entering d: since that is my cd drive and it won't work either way.
anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong or how i can get these programs
back? thanks!

Restore your computer to a restore point immediately before disk cleanup
took place.

I would if that were an option, but it's been a while since he did this. If
I restored, then I would lost a lot of information I need to hold onto.

Maybe just the shortcuts are missing.

Do these work?

Open Paint...
Start | Run | Type: mspaint | Click OK

Open Calculator
Start | Run | Type: calc | Click OK

Restore shortcuts to the Accessories group

i don't know why it kept prompting me for the cd because i already had
service pack 2 installed. the default directory it kept giving me was
d:\i386. i finally figured out to change it to c:\i386 after a lot of
playing around and trying to get something to work and then it finally
renistalled it all. thanks for all the help!
