I am trying to upgrade from Windows 98SE to Windows XP Home. Before
trying to install I ran the upgrade adviser, downloaded the XP drivers
that I will need, backed up all my files, did complete maintenance,
checked for spyware, ran disk defragmenter etc. I also closed down all
programs running in the background, including my virus program.
Everything seemed to be going fine until the computer rebooted for the
first time during installation. Now the computer just stops responding
at a dark screen with no error messages. I can slightly see the Windows
logo on the screen but it doesn't show up very well. I can see it well
enough to see that there are no messages though. I left the screen up
for a few minutes to see if it would continue but it didn't. When I
tried restarting the computer the same thing happened. Any ideas?
