- Welcome Screen Problem
- Posted by Badbird on January 9th, 2006
When I boot up my system and the welcome screen appears, there is a notice
beneath my account which says I've got one unread e-mail message - when in
fact I don't have any unread e-mail messages at all, except in the Norton
Anti-Spam folder. I've tried deleting those, but the system keeps telling me
I've got unread mail.
How can I fix this so the system won't keep telling me I've got mail that I
don't have?

Thanks John - but I can't 'run' the solution. When I click on your link I
just get a blank page with a registry entry on it - nothing else. Do I just
run 'regedit' and change the value on this entry to match yours?

The link works fine, do you have pop up blockers on?
Anyway, copy the text between the lines below to notepad and save the file
as disablemail.reg
run and this should cure the problem.
--------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail\]
"MessageExpiryDays"=dword:00000000
--------------------------------------

John,
Looks like the problem was with Firefox. I tried again in IE and got the
downloads. Thanks!
