- What's taking up space?

I have an unused WinXP SP2, FAT32 logical drive, 4.34 GB, System files are
set to show. The Drive's Properties show used space as 1.1 MB
There are 2 files in it:
The Recycle Bin = 8.00 KB (empty)
System Volume Information = 768 KB
So what's taking up the rest of the 1.1 MB?

(to be sure to see all folders)
Check the Windows Explorer "View" options --- set it to show you all folders; all system folders; & hidden files.
Bring up Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options/ select VIEW Tab and look at all of settings listed.
"CHECK" (turn on) Display the contents of system folders.
Under column, Hidden files and folders----choose ( *select* ) Show hidden files and folders.
Next, un-check Hide extensions for known file types.
Next un-check Hide protected operating system files.

You might also select the files you do see, right click and select Proprties
and compare "Size" to "Size on disk" as it's possible with a FAT32 partition
that the file slack accounts for some of the missing space. Windows
allocates disk space for files in fixed blocks (e.g., 4K is the default for
a 4GB filesystem), what's left over after allocating a file is the slack.
Given the files and filesystem size you report, I wouldn't expect you to
find much space in the slack (none if those really are your only files).
But if you are curious about where 350KB went on a 4GB filsystem, I'm
betting you'll wonder where that last, say, 1842 bytes went when you have
accounted for everything else...
